About Desi Khel Rulebook
Desi Khel Rulebook is an independent website published by Arvind (Desi Khel Rulebook) from India. Our goal is simple: to write down the rules of traditional Indian games — the way they are really played in galis, school grounds and housing societies — so that children, parents and teachers can keep them alive.
Who writes this site
The site is created and edited by Arvind, who grew up playing gilli-danda, pittu and kancha in an Indian neighbourhood and now wants the next generation to enjoy the same games. Every game page is written from playground experience, conversations with parents, grandparents and PE teachers, and careful cross-checking of regional names and variations. All diagrams on the site are original drawings made for Desi Khel Rulebook.
What you will find here
- Step-by-step rules for 20+ traditional games, from gilli-danda to chaupar.
- Original SVG diagrams of courts, equipment and player positions.
- Regional names in Hindi and other Indian languages.
- Safety tips, teaching tips and school/society how-to guides.
- A blog with practical guides for organisers and parents.
Our editorial principles
- Playground rules, clearly labelled. Where a game is also an organised sport (such as kho-kho and kabaddi), we say so and describe informal backyard rules. We are not affiliated with any sports federation, league or association, and we do not use their logos.
- Original content. Text and diagrams are written and drawn for this site. We do not copy copyrighted photos.
- Safety first. Every game page includes safety guidance. Adults should always supervise young children.
- Corrections welcome. Local rules vary. If you know a different name or rule, tell us and we will consider adding it.
How the site is funded
